Stay
C
(Stay-C
IS A TRADEMARK Of Roche for stabilized Vitamin - C)
Nutrition
research shows that the very unstable micro-nutrient, vitamin C, has biologic
actions essential to life and life forms that cannot synthesize it, must be fed
adequate amounts almost daily.
WHY STAY C
Vitamin
C (ascorbic acid) is Essential in fish and shrimp nutrition for:
·
Growth
·
Skeleton formation
·
Tissue repair
·
Host defense mechanisms
Stay C Deficiency results in
·
Sub-optimal growth
·
Skeletal malformation
·
Impaired wound healing
·
Reduced resistance to disease.
INSTABILITY
OF VITAMIN ‘C’
Instability of vitamin C, especially in diets for aquatic
species, presents several formulation difficulties for feed manufacturers.
Ascorbic Acid (ASA) and the various forms of coated vitamin C are extremely
prone to rapid oxidation when submitted to heat and moisture, particularly in
the presence of iron, copper and nickel salts. Feed manufacturing submits
ascorbic acid to all these pro-oxidizing conditions through extrusion or
pelletizing. Previously, feed mills had to compensate for these manufacturing
losses through the addition of ascorbic acid at many times the target level of
vitamin C activity. With the development of STAY-CTM , these
problems have been greatly reduced.
Product
Information:
1. The
polyphosphorylated ester of Vitamin C L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (AsPP) has
equimolar L-ascorbate activity. Because the 2-carbon on this compound is
esterified this form of vitamin C is thus protected from oxidation.
2. Stay-CTM
brand AsPP has been specifically formulated and tested for use in feeds
for aquatic species requiring a dietary source of vitamin C.
3. STAY-CTM
is a new, safe, efficacious, and cost-effective, source of vitamin C for
aquaculture.
4. The relative
"usefulness" of STAY-CTM was over 50-fold that of ascorbic
acid in satisfying the shrimp requirement.
5. Stability
comparisons between STAY-CTM and As A show relative savings and
improved animal performance derived from STAY-CTM longer shelf-life
and lower mix rates for a targeted 100 ppm of equivalent vitamin C activity in
aquaculture feeds at Day 0 .
6. Whereas
vitamin C in aerated aqueous solution has a half-life in minutes, STAY-CTM’
s half-life is in days, i.e. 20-1300 times more stable against oxidation
.
7. STAY-CTM’s
stability is directly proportional to pH and inversely proportional to
temperature.
8. In pelleted
feeds stored at 25o or 40o C, the stability of STAY-CTM
is up to 83 and 45 times greater than that of non-phosphorylated ascorbic
acid, respectively.
9. The
significance of the stability and bio-availability of STAY-CTM is
important to both the feed manufacturer and consumer. For the first time, feed
manufacturers can assure their customers that certain targeted levels of
vitamin C introduced into the feed will remain in the feed until used.
Application:
Can be milled into the feed. Direct application into pond
water also showed greater improvement in vitality and disease resistance of
animals.
Packing:
Available
